ACON On Call MultiPro connectivity

If your clinic runs an ACON On Call MultiPro, someone is probably reading figures off the analyser and typing them into another system by hand. That takes time, and every retype is a chance for a transcription slip. It also leaves quality control runs muddled in with real patient results unless somebody sorts them out afterwards.

Catenix removes that step. It captures each result from the MultiPro automatically, keeps quality control data on its own track, and forwards patient results to the systems your site already uses. This page explains, in plain terms, how the connection works and what it involves.

Quick answer

Yes, a Catenix on-site gateway can connect the ACON On Call MultiPro. It reports over HL7 v2 across your network, so Catenix captures HbA1c, estimated average glucose, CRP and urine ACR results automatically and forwards them to your LIS or EHR. Quality control data is kept separate from patient results, and the device's HL7 v2 two-way messaging is supported.

What the ACON On Call MultiPro measures

The ACON On Call MultiPro is a point-of-care analyser used in clinics and primary care settings. It reports HbA1c together with an estimated average glucose, C-reactive protein (CRP), and a urine albumin to creatinine ratio (ACR). Because the analyser sits at the point of care, each of these results is produced on site rather than being sent away first.

Catenix does not change how the device performs any test, and it makes no judgement about a result's clinical meaning. Our role begins once a result exists: carrying it to the systems your site already uses so nobody has to retype it.

How it connects

The MultiPro speaks HL7 version 2, a long-established messaging standard used widely across laboratory and clinical systems. In simple terms, HL7 v2 sends a structured message whenever there is something to report, so a result can move from the analyser to another system as soon as it is finalised. HL7 v2 is typically carried over a network, which means the analyser can share a message once your local network can reach it.

Catenix sits on that network through a small on-site gateway. The gateway is a modest piece of software that runs on a computer at your site. It listens for the messages the analyser produces, acknowledges them, and passes them securely up to your Catenix workspace. Because the gateway is local, results keep flowing even if your internet link is briefly interrupted, and nothing about the analyser's own operation needs to change.

The MultiPro also supports two-way messaging. As well as receiving results, a connected platform can send information back to the device, for example a patient list or a device instruction. Catenix can drive the two-way messages the device supports, which reduces some of the manual setup at the analyser itself. You can read more about the general standard in our HL7 v2 explainer.

Results and quality control in Catenix

When a result arrives, Catenix records it with the details needed for a clean audit trail: which device sent it, when it was captured, and the operator and patient context that came with the message. From there the result can be reviewed in the workspace and forwarded to your laboratory information system (LIS) or electronic health record (EHR), so the figure filed against the patient record is the same one that appeared on the analyser.

Quality control is handled apart from patient results. When a run is a QC check rather than a patient test, Catenix keeps that data on a separate track so it does not mix into patient records or onward reporting. That separation keeps records tidy and makes it straightforward to show that your controls were run, without a QC value ever being mistaken for a patient's result. You can see the wider approach on our platform overview.

Getting connected

Getting a MultiPro connected is mostly a matter of network access and a short configuration step. You will need the analyser reachable on your local network, a computer to host the Catenix gateway, and a decision on where results should be routed onward. Our team confirms the details with your POCT coordinator and IT contact before anything goes live, so the connection is agreed rather than assumed.

Questions clinics ask

Can I connect an ACON On Call MultiPro to my LIS?

Yes. The MultiPro reports over HL7 v2 across your network, and Catenix captures each result then forwards it to your LIS or EHR. The value filed matches what appeared on the analyser, so no one has to retype it. We confirm the routing with your team before go-live.

Does connecting the analyser change how it runs tests?

No. Catenix works with the results the device produces and does not alter how any test is performed. The on-site gateway listens for messages on your network and passes them on. The analyser's own operation stays the same.

How is quality control data kept separate from patient results?

When a run is a QC check rather than a patient test, Catenix keeps that data on a separate track. It does not mix into patient records or onward reporting. That keeps records tidy and makes it easy to show that controls were run.

What does the two-way messaging do?

The MultiPro supports HL7 v2 two-way messaging, so a platform can send information back to the device as well as receive results. That can include things like a patient list or a device instruction. Catenix can drive the two-way messages the device supports.

What do we need on site to get started?

You need the analyser reachable on your local network and a computer to host the Catenix gateway. We agree where results should be routed, then confirm the details with your POCT coordinator and IT contact. See /contact/ to arrange a conversation.

Where can I find pricing and security information?

Pricing is set out at /pricing/. For how we handle data, storage, and access, see /security/ and /trust/. If you would like to talk to a person about your setup, use /contact/.
