Clinisys WinPath is the laboratory information management system (LIMS) that Clinisys says most pathology laboratories across the UK and Ireland rely on, and WinPath Enterprise is the multi-site, multi-trust version that pathology networks run as one shared instance. Clinisys states WinPath integrates with all mainstream analysers and with POCT devices using healthcare industry standard messaging. Laboratory analysers are interfaced as a matter of course. Point-of-care devices on wards and in community sites often are not. That is the manual step in between.
Two things push a pathology network to bring point-of-care testing into the LIMS. The first is volume: a network point-of-care testing (POCT) service can span several trusts, community diagnostic centres (CDCs) and community sites, each with devices producing results someone would otherwise transcribe. The second is governance: point-of-care testing sits within the scope of ISO 15189:2022 and the laboratory's UKAS assessment, so every result needs the operator, device, lot and quality-control status attached, and it needs to sit in the same archive as the laboratory's results so it reaches the EPR and GP record the same way.
Catenix sits between the point-of-care devices and WinPath Enterprise. A gateway at each site captures each result electronically the moment it is produced, over HL7, POCT1-A2, ASTM or the device's own format, so device families from different manufacturers arrive as one feed. The result is matched to the right patient and operator, kept separate from quality-control runs, and forwarded to WinPath Enterprise through a structured result feed, commonly HL7 v2, over the same kind of interface route the laboratory already uses for its analysers. From there it reaches the EPR and GP systems the way laboratory results already do.

Why route point-of-care results through the LIMS rather than straight into the EPR?
Because it keeps point-of-care testing under the laboratory's governance. A result filed in WinPath Enterprise sits in the same archive as the laboratory's own results, is reported to the EPR and GP systems through the same results reporting, and is covered by the same accreditation evidence. That is how many NHS pathology networks already run their POCT services. Catenix can also deliver directly to an EPR where a trust prefers, or to both destinations from the same captured result, and it keeps its own quality-control and audit record either way. Whichever route is chosen, agree the governance independently of the routing and make sure each result is filed once, not twice.
