About Catenix
What is Catenix?
Catenix is point-of-care testing software: POCT middleware that connects analysers to one record, plus the quality control, competency, quality management, results governance, reporting and billing that a testing service needs. It runs a single site or a whole network and is live in production.
Is Catenix POCT middleware or a clinic platform?
Both, depending on how you use it. Hospital and laboratory teams use it as connectivity and QC middleware that forwards results to a LIS. Clinics use it as the working record from booking to report to invoice. The same platform, with modules switched on per site.
Is Catenix a medical device?
No. Catenix is connectivity, workflow, record-keeping and data display. It does not interpret results, calculate clinical values, classify results clinically or provide clinical decision support. Statistics in the Workbench describe methods and datasets, never a patient.
Who is Catenix for?
POCT coordinators, quality managers, clinic and service managers, and IT and informatics teams in hospitals, private labs and clinics, community diagnostics, urgent care, wellness and occupational health. See the who it's for page.
Connectivity
Which analysers can Catenix connect?
Chemistry, immunoassay, blood gas, haematology, coagulation, HbA1c, urinalysis and molecular analysers over the standards they speak, with connection guides for more than 45 devices. Where a device needs a new driver, it is scoped and built with you.
Which standards are supported?
HL7 v2, POCT1-A2 and ASTM at the device, with FHIR and REST for clinical systems and integrations. Connectivity is bidirectional, so the worklist can go out to the analyser with the patient already attached.
Does the analyser need internet access?
No. The analyser talks to a small gateway on your local network. The gateway handles secure delivery upward and holds results in an encrypted spool if the connection drops.
Can results go to our LIS, EMIS, SystmOne or another clinical system?
Yes. Results are forwarded as standard messages to laboratory and clinical systems, with integration guides for common UK and US systems. Message traces are available for the interface team.
What is the Pocket Gateway?
A staff phone acting as the gateway for community and home visits: a networked analyser joins the phone's hotspot, or a Bluetooth meter pairs directly, and readings flow into the record when the phone is back online.
Quality and compliance
How does Catenix handle QC?
Control runs are captured from the analyser and kept separate from patient results. Levey-Jennings charts and Westgard multi-rule evaluation run per device, level and analyte, a lockout can hold the device until a failure is reviewed, and the monthly review is summarised and signed in the platform.
Does Catenix support ISO 15189:2022?
It keeps the records the standard and its point-of-care Annex A ask for: QC and EQA, operator competency, equipment records, verification of methods, non-conformances, CAPA, audits, risks and management review, on a verifiable audit trail. The Quality Management add-on includes a 45-item ISO 15189:2022 POCT checklist. Accreditation itself is assessed by your accreditation body.
Can we verify a new analyser in Catenix?
Yes. The Statistics Workbench add-on runs CLSI EP15 and EP05 style precision, EP09 style method comparison, linearity, detection limits and reference-interval transference from data the platform holds, and produces a signed verification pack.
How are EQA returns and investigations handled?
The External Quality add-on tracks scheme deadlines with staged reminders and a calendar file, logs sample receipt, records structured investigations of failed returns with root cause, actions, verification and signed closure, and produces an annual summary.
What does the audit trail record, and can it be tampered with?
Every state-changing action, in the name of the authenticated user: who, when, from where, what changed. Rows are hash-chained and the chain can be verified per organisation. Extracts to PDF or CSV carry a cover sheet.
Results safety
How do you stop results landing on the wrong patient?
The worklist goes to the analyser with the patient attached and the result matches back to that record, so an ID is never typed twice. Where a manual match is needed it is a recorded decision; moving a result requires a reason and is audited on both patients, and downstream systems receive a correction.
What happens with a critical result?
The acknowledgement records who was told, how, and the read-back. Unacknowledged results escalate on a timer, and patient-facing release for the encounter is held until the acknowledgement exists. Critical status comes from customer-configured limits and analyser flags; Catenix does not interpret the value.
Can a result be corrected?
Yes, as an amendment: the original is kept and marked superseded, the corrected result is linked with the reason, and the report shows an AMENDED note.
Data, security and hosting
Where is our data hosted?
Catenix offers regional data residency, with UK hosting available. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is role-based and every organisation is isolated within the platform.
Is Catenix Cyber Essentials certified?
Yes. The Trust Centre lists current certifications and the security overview.
Does the AI assistant see patient data?
The assistant is read-only, scoped to your own organisation, and its database queries are restricted to selects and audited. It helps people find features, understand the platform and look up their own tenant's operational data. It does not interpret results.
Buying and rollout
How does pricing work?
One subscription per site, covering the core modules, device drivers, updates and support. Optional add-ons such as Quality Management, the Statistics Workbench and External Quality are a flat monthly price per site. There are no per-test fees. See the pricing page.
How long does implementation take?
Most supported analysers connect within days: install the gateway on a PC at the site, point the analyser at it, confirm the first result end to end, then go live. Multi-site rollouts are scoped with the quote.
Can we start with one site or one analyser?
Yes. A common starting point is the analysers that are currently unconnected, at one site, then extend.
What happens in a demo?
A 30-minute walkthrough on a live tenant with the analysers you run, or a 15-minute intro call if you prefer to start smaller. Nothing to install, no obligation.
