Oracle Health Millennium, formerly Cerner Millennium, is the electronic patient record (EPR) at many NHS acute trusts and is among the most widely deployed EPRs in English hospitals. Oracle reports one London integrated care system running all of its acute hospitals on a single shared Millennium domain. Where Millennium is the chart, a point-of-care result that never reaches it might as well not exist. The gap is rarely the analyser and rarely Millennium. It is the manual step in between.

Two things push a trust on Millennium to connect its analysers. The first is volume: blood gas, glucose, ketones and INR run on many devices across wards, theatres, the emergency department (ED) and outpatients, and each result is a value someone would otherwise type in later. The second is governance: a hand-typed result carries no operator, device, lot or quality-control status, and ISO 15189:2022 and Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) guidance on point-of-care devices expect exactly that evidence, at every site the point-of-care testing (POCT) coordinator covers. Connect the analysers and both problems shrink.

Catenix sits between your analysers and Millennium. A small gateway on site captures each result electronically the moment it is produced, over HL7, POCT1-A2, ASTM or the device's own format. The result is matched to the right patient and operator, kept separate from quality-control runs, and forwarded to Millennium through a structured result feed, commonly HL7 v2 via the trust integration engine, or, where the trust has enabled it, the FHIR R4 APIs Oracle publishes for the Millennium platform, which include creating Observation resources in the laboratory and vital-signs categories. How do point-of-care results reach Oracle Health Millennium?

Should point-of-care results go straight into Millennium or through the laboratory system first?

Either, and many trusts do both. Routing through the laboratory information management system (LIMS) keeps point-of-care results under the laboratory's governance and alongside its own results, and they reach Millennium through the results reporting the laboratory already runs. Filing directly into Millennium is simpler where the POCT service sits outside the laboratory. Catenix can deliver to the LIMS, to Millennium, or to both from the same captured result, and the choice is made with the POCT coordinator and the laboratory during implementation. Whichever route is chosen, agree the governance independently of the routing and make sure each result is filed once, not twice.
