Point-of-care results, filed in Practice Fusion.

Run the test in the exam room and the result lands in Practice Fusion as a structured value against the right patient. Nothing read off a screen, nothing typed twice, no printout walked to the front desk.

Practice Fusion is a cloud-based electronic health record (EHR) built for independent practices, and it describes itself as designed for small and solo providers. It publishes its lab connectivity openly: HL7 2.3 and HL7 2.5.1 Lab Results API Developer Guides, an HL7 ordering specification, and a FHIR R4 API with patient, provider and bulk-export application types that a practice manages inside the EHR. Reference laboratories connect that way. The analyzer on the counter in the office usually does not. That is the manual step in between.

Two things push an independent practice to connect its analyzers. The first is staff: in a small office the person running the waived glucose, HbA1c, lipid or strep test is often the same person answering the phone, and every result typed by hand is a minute lost and a chance for a transposed digit. The second is the record: recordkeeping obligations under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA, 42 CFR Part 493) depend on test complexity, the manufacturer's instructions, state rules and any accreditation, and a result that arrives in the chart with the operator, device and quality-control status attached is the simplest way to meet whichever apply.

Catenix sits between your analyzers and Practice Fusion. A gateway in the office, or a staff phone running Pocket Gateway, captures each result electronically the moment it is produced, over HL7, POCT1-A2, ASTM or the device's own format. The result is matched to the right patient and operator, kept separate from quality-control runs, and forwarded to Practice Fusion through an HL7 v2 results interface, the format Practice Fusion documents in its Lab Results API Developer Guides, or a supported API where the practice has enabled it. The practice enables the connection on its side, with Catenix guiding that step.

How it works

From bench to filed result.

01
Capture
The Catenix gateway takes each result from the analyser electronically, over the protocol the device speaks, with no re-typing.
02
Match
The result attaches to the right patient and the named operator, and quality-control runs are kept separate from patient results automatically.
03
Forward
The finished, traceable result is delivered to Practice Fusion through an HL7 v2 results interface, the format Practice Fusion documents in its Lab Results API Developer Guides, or a supported API where the practice has enabled it.
04
File
It arrives as a structured value in the record your clinicians already work from, ready for their review and sign-off.

Questions, answered

Before you ask.

How do point-of-care results reach Practice Fusion?

A result captured at the bench is turned into a structured message and delivered to Practice Fusion through an HL7 v2 results interface or, where the practice has enabled it, a supported API. Practice Fusion publishes Lab Results API Developer Guides for HL7 2.3 and HL7 2.5.1 and a FHIR R4 API for patient, provider and bulk-export applications. Catenix is designed to connect over those open standards, so the value that was measured is the value filed against the right patient, with the operator and device attached.

Is Catenix integrated with Practice Fusion?

Catenix is designed and ready to connect to Practice Fusion over the standards it accepts. That describes connectivity built to open standards, not an affiliation with or endorsement by Practice Fusion. Exactly what flows, and how, is confirmed with your practice during implementation.

Does the practice need to enable anything in Practice Fusion?

Yes, and it is the practice's decision. Practice Fusion connects laboratories through its lab results interface, and FHIR applications are managed by the practice inside the EHR, which chooses what data is shared with each application. Catenix walks the practice through the request, presents a standard result message on its side, and confirms with Practice Fusion which route applies and how results file against the patient and encounter. Until the connection is live, results are still captured, quality-checked and reported by Catenix, with a tamper-evident record of each one.

Catenix is designed and ready to connect to the systems named on this page over open standards. That wording is deliberate: it describes connectivity built to published interfaces, not a claim of affiliation with, endorsement by, or certification from any named vendor. Product and company names are the trademarks of their respective owners and are used for identification only. What connects in your setting is confirmed during implementation. This page describes connectivity and data handling only and is not clinical advice.
