Connecting a Siemens ADVIA Centaur XPT to your LIS or EHR

Quick answer

Yes. The ADVIA Centaur XPT has a bidirectional RS-232C host interface with host query, and an Ethernet connection is also available. Catenix answers the system's queries with the tests ordered in your EHR and sends matched results back. The message format is confirmed from the host settings at setup.

The ADVIA Centaur XPT is a floor-standing, random-access chemiluminescent immunoassay system. It runs up to 240 tests an hour, holds 180 samples fully loaded and carries 30 assays on board.

Its menu covers allergy, anaemia and iron, bone metabolism, cardiac, diabetes, hepatitis, HIV, immunosuppressant drugs, liver fibrosis, metabolic, oncology, reproductive endocrinology, sepsis, special infectious disease, TDM, thyroid and ToRCH.

Ports on the Centaur XPT

The XPT has an RS-232C host interface, an Ethernet connection option, and a separate 1000BASE-T port reserved for remote service. The service port is not the LIS link. We confirm which host connection your system uses: the serial route goes through a serial device server to the Catenix gateway.

STAT, repeats and reflex tests

Samples in the dedicated STAT port are processed with priority. When the XPT reads a barcode it asks the host for that sample's tests, and Catenix supplies the EHR's orders. User-defined auto-repeat, automatic dilution up to 1:2500 and auto-reflex testing all run on the system; Catenix keeps every message so repeats and reflexes can be traced in the audit trail.

QC across the analyser and Catenix

The XPT orders QC automatically by test, control, date and time, with its own Levey-Jennings charts and Westgard rules. Where control results reach the host, Catenix files them as QC, grades them against your lab's targets and holds patient results for a test whose QC fails. Patient results are matched by sample ID; the gateway reconnects after drops and stores results on site during internet outages.
