Connecting a Mindray BC-30s to your LIS or EHR

Quick answer

Yes. Mindray lists a bidirectional LIS connection for the BC-30s over its LAN port, with Wi-Fi as an option, and a Mindray product flyer names HL7 on the LAN port. Catenix connects as that LIS link, matches results to EHR orders and sends them on. Message settings are confirmed on your unit during setup.

The BC-30s is a small 3-part differential analyser with a footprint Mindray compares to a 17-inch laptop. It reports 21 parameters and three histograms at up to 70 samples an hour, and needs only 9 microlitres of whole blood, so capillary samples from children work well.

It is open-vial, stores up to 500,000 results with histograms, and has a 10.4-inch touch screen plus four USB ports for a printer, barcode reader, keyboard or Wi-Fi adapter.

Wired or wireless

The BC-30s can be cabled to the LAN, or, where a cable run is awkward, reach the network over its Wi-Fi option. In both cases the Catenix gateway on site is the address the analyser sends to, and the gateway recovers the link itself after a drop.

Small samples, scanned IDs

With a barcode reader on one of the USB ports, staff scan each sample instead of typing. Because the LIS link is bidirectional, Catenix can supply the tests ordered in the EHR for a scanned sample, and every result comes back matched by sample ID. A count with no order behind it is held for review rather than filed against the wrong patient.

All 21 parameters, Lymph#, Mid#, Gran# and the rest, are mapped to your EHR's codes during setup.

Mindray controls in Catenix

Control runs are filed as QC and graded with Westgard rules against your targets, with Levey-Jennings charts kept for each level. When a control fails, patient results for that test wait until it is sorted. Messages are stored with results, and an internet outage only delays forwarding because results are held on site.
