Connecting a Haemonetics TEG 6s to your LIS or EHR

Quick answer

Yes, by way of TEG Manager. TEG 6s analysers report to Haemonetics' TEG Manager software, which sends results to the hospital system in HL7. Catenix can be the receiver for those HL7 messages and passes the results on to your EHR or LIS.

The TEG 6s is a cartridge-based viscoelastic analyser: it watches a sample of 3.2% citrated whole blood clot and break down, and reports values such as R, K, angle and MA. Each cartridge runs up to four assays at once with no manual mixing. In the US it is cleared for adult patients in cardiovascular surgery and cardiology.

Cartridges include Global Hemostasis, Global Hemostasis with Lysis and PlateletMapping. Analysers are often spread across the hospital, in the lab and the operating theatre, which is why Haemonetics pairs them with a central server.

Why the link runs through TEG Manager

Each TEG 6s runs an agent that reports to TEG Manager, a web-based server application that collects every test, lets clinicians watch tracings live from anywhere in the hospital, and manages analyser user accounts and firmware. Haemonetics documents the hospital link at that server, not at the analyser: results go out as HL7, reports can follow as PDFs, and ADT messages come in to build patient lists.

So Catenix connects to TEG Manager's HL7 output, not to each analyser. TEG Manager keeps doing its own job, live viewing included.

Matching a clot to a patient

When a sample is scanned, TEG Manager pulls the patient's details from the hospital system and asks staff to confirm them, so results arrive with an identified patient. Catenix uses that ID to file each result against the right record, maps each TEG parameter to your EHR's codes during setup, and holds anything it cannot match for review.

Cartridge QC and the audit trail

Haemonetics supplies level 1 and level 2 cartridge reagent QC. Where those control runs come through in the HL7 feed, Catenix files them as QC instead of patient results and grades them with Westgard rules, with a failed control holding patient results for that test. Each HL7 message is stored with the result it carried.

Questions people ask

Does the TEG 6s send HL7 directly?

Haemonetics documents HL7 from TEG Manager, the server the analysers report to. Catenix receives that feed.

Do we still need TEG Manager with Catenix?

Yes. TEG Manager collects results from the analysers and keeps live tracing views; Catenix takes its HL7 output to your EHR or LIS.

What sample does the TEG 6s use?

3.2% citrated venous whole blood, in a cartridge that runs up to four assays.
