Connecting a Beckman Coulter DxC 700 AU to your LIS or EHR

Quick answer

Yes. The DxC 700 AU is bidirectional and supports both broadcast download and host query. Catenix can send the EHR's orders ahead of time or answer the analyser's query for each barcoded tube, then return matched results to your EHR or LIS. The message format and physical link are confirmed from the analyser's host settings at setup.

The DxC 700 AU is a floor-standing, continuous random-access clinical chemistry analyser for mid- to high-volume laboratories, typically those running around 500,000 to 1.5 million tests a year. It processes 800 photometric tests an hour, or 1,200 with ISE.

It carries 63 on-board assays with ISE, including an HbA1c assay, and runs on Windows 10 software. Variants come with or without ISE and with direct track sampling (DTS) for automation lines.

Broadcast download versus host query

With broadcast download, Catenix pushes the EHR's orders to the DxC 700 AU before the tubes arrive. With host query, the analyser reads a barcode and asks for that sample's work, and Catenix replies with the tests ordered. Labs with steady ward rounds often prefer download; labs with unpredictable arrivals tend to prefer query. Both are supported by the analyser.

Barcode labels need to use one of the symbologies the DxC 700 AU reads: Interleaved 2 of 5, Codabar, Code 39 or Code 128.

Reruns, dilutions and the audit trail

The analyser reruns automatically and dilutes on board where programmed. Catenix keeps every message with the result it belongs to, so a rerun can be traced to exactly what the analyser sent. Test codes are mapped to the EHR's codes at setup, and unmatched results wait for review.

Quality control alongside the on-board QC

The DxC 700 AU has its own real-time QC with multiple QC lots per analyte. Where control results reach the host, Catenix files them as QC, grades them with Westgard rules against your targets and keeps Levey-Jennings history. A failed QC holds patient results for that test.

Questions people ask

Does the DxC 700 AU support host query?

Yes. It supports host query and broadcast download. Catenix answers queries with the tests ordered in your EHR.

Which barcode types does the DxC 700 AU read?

Interleaved 2 of 5, Codabar, Code 39 and Code 128.

What happens if the lab's internet connection drops?

The Catenix gateway stores results on site and forwards them when the connection returns. It also reconnects to the analyser on its own after a network drop.
