Connecting a Beckman Coulter AU680 to your LIS or EHR

Quick answer

Yes. The AU680 supports uni-directional or bidirectional communication with a host. Catenix acts as that host: with bidirectional mode on, it supplies the EHR's orders for each barcoded tube, then receives results, files controls as QC and sends patient results to your EHR or LIS. The physical link and message format are confirmed from the AU680's host settings at setup.

The AU680 is a fully automated, random-access clinical chemistry analyser with STAT capability, built for mid- to high-volume laboratories. It runs 800 photometric tests an hour, or up to 1,200 with ISE, with 63 on-board parameters (60 photometric and 3 ISE run simultaneously).

Its methods cover colorimetry, turbidimetry, latex agglutination, homogeneous EIA and indirect ISE, so a single AU680 often carries most of a lab's routine chemistry.

Orders on a continuously loaded AU680

With 150 sample positions fed in racks of ten and up to 22 STAT positions, the AU680 keeps taking work while it runs. In bidirectional mode each barcoded tube is run for the tests ordered in the EHR, which Catenix supplies on request. In uni-directional mode the tests are chosen on the analyser and Catenix pairs each result with its order by sample ID.

Before the AU680 goes live

We confirm the host port, message settings and order mode from the AU680's configuration with your team, then map each AU680 test to the EHR's code. If you also use Remisol Advance for remote monitoring, that connection stays as it is.

The on-site gateway keeps the link supervised. After a network drop it reconnects on its own, and during an internet outage results are kept on site and forwarded later.

AU680 controls and patient results in Catenix

Control samples are filed as QC, graded with Westgard rules against your lab's targets and plotted on Levey-Jennings charts. A failed control holds patient results for that test. Every message is stored with its result for the audit trail, and results with no matching order wait for review.

Questions people ask

Is the Beckman Coulter AU680 bidirectional?

It supports both uni-directional and bidirectional communication with a host. Catenix works with either.

Which protocol does the AU680 use with Catenix?

We confirm the interface details from the AU680's host settings during setup rather than assume them.

Does connecting Catenix affect Remisol Advance?

No. Remisol Advance remote monitoring is a separate connection and is left in place.
