Connecting an ARKRAY AUTION ELEVEN to your LIS or EHR
Quick answer
Yes. The AUTION ELEVEN sends results one way, using ASTM 1394 and ASTM 1381 over a direct serial connection, as soon as each strip is read. Catenix picks up those results through a serial device server, matches them by specimen ID and forwards them to your EHR or LIS.
The AUTION ELEVEN (AE-4020, sold in the US as the AE-4022) is a semi-automated urine chemistry analyser and one of the smallest of its kind. In auto start mode a strip can be placed every 7 seconds, giving up to 514 tests an hour, and the analyser straightens misplaced strips itself. The first result appears in about a minute.
Labs use it as their main urine chemistry analyser in mid- to high-volume settings, or as the backup beside a fully automated system. AUTION Sticks 10EA cover bilirubin, haemoglobin, glucose, ketone, leukocyte esterase, nitrite, pH, protein, specific gravity and urobilinogen.

A one-way serial feed
The ELEVEN does not take orders from a host. Each transmission carries the patient ID, specimen ID and result, and Catenix uses the specimen ID to find the matching EHR order. A result with no order waits for review. Because the link is serial, the gateway connects through a serial device server and reconnects on its own after a network drop.
If your lab already routes the ELEVEN through Data Innovations middleware, that path can stay. Catenix can instead take the serial feed directly where you want results in the EHR without another layer.
What the barcode reader captures
Staff can scan an operator ID, a specimen ID and the reagent lot number, in Codabar, Code 39, Code 128, PDF 417 or ITF, or type the specimen ID by hand. The operator ID travels with the result into Catenix. Colour tone identification and abnormal colour detection on the analyser flag possible false positives before the result leaves the bench.
Lockouts on the ELEVEN, QC in Catenix
The ELEVEN can prompt for QC, stop testing until QC has been run and restrict use with Operator ID lockout; a failed user ID check also stops analysis. Control results that reach Catenix are filed as QC, never as patient results, and a failed control holds patient results for that test. Each message is stored with its result, and the analyser's test codes are mapped to your EHR codes at setup.

Questions people ask
Is the AUTION ELEVEN bidirectional?
No. It sends results to the host as each test completes but does not download orders. Catenix matches each result to its EHR order by specimen ID.
Which protocol does the AUTION ELEVEN use?
ASTM 1394-91 with ASTM 1381 framing, over a direct serial connection.
What is the difference between the AE-4020 and AE-4022?
They are the same AUTION ELEVEN family; the AE-4022 is the model sold in the US from 2017.
