Connecting an Abbott ARCHITECT i2000SR to your LIS or EHR

Quick answer

Yes. The ARCHITECT i2000SR has a bidirectional RS-232 serial interface using ASTM E1394 records over ASTM E1381, with a host query option. Catenix answers queries with the tests ordered in your EHR and sends matched results back to the EHR or LIS.

The ARCHITECT i2000SR is an immunoassay analyser running up to 200 tests an hour with a sample capacity of 135. It shares its host interface with the rest of the ARCHITECT family.

Result field length

The ARCHITECT software can send up to 20 characters in the result value field, more than the 15 once listed for it. Catenix accepts the full 20, so long result strings are not cut off. It is worth checking the same limit on anything else that receives i2000SR results.

Orders and the serial link

With the host query option on, the i2000SR asks for each barcoded sample's tests and Catenix supplies the EHR's orders. Without it, tests are chosen at the analyser and Catenix matches results to orders by sample ID. The RS-232 port reaches the gateway through a serial device server; the gateway reconnects after drops and stores results on site during internet outages. Test codes are mapped to the EHR's codes at setup.

QC and the audit trail

Control runs reaching Catenix are filed as QC, graded with Westgard rules against your targets, and a failed QC holds patient results for that test. Every message is kept with its result, and unmatched results wait for review.
