Connecting a Sysmex XQ-320 to your LIS or EHR

Quick answer

Yes. The XQ-320 supports HL7 version 2 on its LAN port and ASTM (E1381 and E1394-97), with a serial port, two LAN ports and five USB ports. It can query the host for orders and patient demographics; Catenix answers with what was ordered in your EHR and returns matched results.

The XQ-320 is an open-tube, 3-part differential haematology analyser reporting 20 parameters, a CBC plus lymphocytes, mixed cells and neutrophils. It runs about 70 tests an hour in whole blood mode and 60 in pre-diluted mode.

It is used in labs, GP and physician office labs, hospital wards and rapid-response settings, and as a satellite analyser within a hospital or lab network.

HL7 or ASTM on the XQ-320

The XQ-320 can talk HL7 v2 over LAN, which suits sites where results go straight into an EHR, or ASTM. We confirm which your unit is set to and connect the Catenix gateway accordingly, over the network or through a serial device server for the serial port. Test parameters are mapped to the EHR's codes at setup.

Operators, QC lockout and orders

Operators log on by scanning a barcode or QR code, and the XQ-320 manages up to 500 users. Its own QC lockout stops testing when QC is out. With host query, scanning a tube's barcode brings the EHR's order and demographics from Catenix, so ward staff do not type patient details.

If Sysmex Extended IPU or Caresphere XQC is used for QC, that connection stays alongside Catenix.

Results and QC in Catenix

Results arrive with flags and histograms, matched to their order by sample ID; unmatched results wait for review. Where control runs reach Catenix they are filed as QC, graded with Westgard rules against your targets, and a failed QC holds patient results for that test. The gateway reconnects after drops and stores results on site during internet outages. Every message is kept with its result.
