Connecting a Sysmex XN-1000 to your LIS or EHR

Quick answer

Yes. The XN-1000 connects to a host computer over LAN using ASTM E1381 and E1394. It queries the host for patient demographics and orders, and Catenix answers with what was ordered in your EHR. It sends numeric results, flags, histograms and scatterplots, which Catenix keeps with the result.

The XN-1000 is a 5-part differential haematology analyser from the Sysmex XN-Series: a single analyser module with an SA-10 sampler holding five racks (50 samples), controlled by an IPU PC. It runs up to 100 samples an hour for CBC+DIFF, up to 83 with reticulocytes and up to 40 for body fluids.

It suits labs with a medium workload where 100 samples an hour is enough. Configurations add RET, PLT-F, WPC and body fluid analysis.

Host query on the XN-1000

When a rack is sampled, the XN-1000 asks the host for each tube's orders and demographics. Catenix replies with the EHR's tests and patient details, so the IPU shows the right work without manual entry. Results go back matched by sample ID, and anything unmatched waits for review.

Graphics and flags

Besides numbers, the XN-1000 sends flags, histograms and scatterplots. Catenix keeps every message with its result, so the full picture the analyser produced is part of the audit trail. Parameter codes are mapped to the EHR's codes at setup. The analyser itself stores 100,000 results including graphics.

The LAN link goes straight to the gateway on your network. It reconnects on its own after a network drop, and results produced during an internet outage are stored on site and forwarded later.

XN-1000 QC in Catenix

The XN-1000 keeps QC files with Levey-Jennings and XbarM on the IPU. Where control results reach the host, Catenix files them as QC, grades them with Westgard rules against your targets and holds patient results for a test whose QC fails.
