Connecting a Sysmex pocH-100i to your LIS or EHR
Quick answer
Yes. The pocH-100i has a serial RS-232 port and a LAN (TCP/IP) connection, and it is sold with a bi-directional host interface. Catenix connects over the network, or through a serial device server, and returns matched CBC results to your EHR or LIS. The message format is confirmed on your unit during setup.
Sysmex built the pocH-100i for sites that run only a handful of blood counts a day, sometimes as few as five. It gives a 17-parameter CBC with a 3-part differential (lymphocytes, mixed cells and neutrophils) from 15 microlitres of EDTA whole blood, at about 25 samples an hour, and it starts up and runs its QC on its own.
In the US it is cleared for CLIA non-waived labs, which means moderate complexity, so it belongs in labs that hold that certificate rather than in waived clinics.
| What | How Catenix handles it |
|---|---|
| Report | 17-parameter CBC, 3-part differential |
| Throughput | About 25 samples per hour |
| Sample | 15 microlitres EDTA whole blood; pre-diluted mode available |
| Tube handling | Closed-tube sampling for patients and QC |
| Ports | Serial RS-232 and LAN (TCP/IP) |
| US status | CLIA moderate complexity, non-waived |
LAN first, serial if you need it
Where the pocH-100i sits on the practice network, the Catenix gateway talks to it over TCP/IP directly. If only the serial port is free, a small serial device server puts it on the network instead. Either way the gateway reconnects on its own after a network drop.
Supplier listings describe the interface as bi-directional. Whether your lab uses it to send work lists or keeps the analyser results-only, Catenix matches each CBC to its EHR order by sample ID, and results without a matching order wait for review.
Closed tubes and the QC files
Patient and control tubes are both sampled through the cap. The analyser keeps six QC files with Levey-Jennings or X-barM charts on board. When control results reach Catenix they are kept separate from patient work, graded with Westgard rules against your targets and charted, and a failed control holds patient results for that test.
Mapping 17 parameters
Each of the 17 parameters, from WBC and haemoglobin to RDW-SD and MPV, is mapped to your EHR's code at setup. Messages are stored with their results, and if the internet goes down the results stay on site until it returns.
