Connecting a PATHFAST to your LIS or EHR

Quick answer

Yes. The PATHFAST transfers data using the ASTM standard over an RS-232C serial port. Catenix's gateway reaches it through a serial device server, matches each result to its EHR order by sample ID and sends it to your EHR or LIS. How orders are handled is confirmed from the analyser's host settings at setup.

The PATHFAST is a benchtop chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay analyser using Magtration technology. It runs up to six samples or assays at a time on whole blood or plasma, with results in under 17 minutes.

It sits in emergency departments, point-of-care settings and STAT labs, running cardiac and urgent markers: hs-cTnI, cTnI, D-Dimer, CK-MB, NT-proBNP, hs-CRP and myoglobin.

Results from a STAT bench

On the PATHFAST, Catenix matches each result to the EHR order by sample ID. If the analyser is set up to send results only, tests are selected on the PATHFAST and the sample ID links each result to its order. Results that do not match wait for review. Test codes are mapped to the EHR's codes at setup.

The RS-232C port reaches the gateway through a serial device server. If the network drops the gateway reconnects on its own, and results produced during an internet outage are stored on site and forwarded later. The integrated printer keeps working as before.

Controls and the record

The PATHFAST keeps up to 1,800 QC results on board. Control runs that reach Catenix are filed as QC, graded with Westgard rules against your targets and charted, and a failed QC holds patient results for that test. Every message is kept with its result.

Questions people ask

Which protocol does the PATHFAST use?

ASTM, over an RS-232C serial port.

Does the PATHFAST need a network port?

Its interface is RS-232C. A serial device server puts it on the network for the Catenix gateway.

How are PATHFAST results matched to orders?

By sample ID. Catenix pairs each result with its EHR order and holds any it cannot match for review.
