Connecting the LumiraDx Platform to your EHR or LIS
Quick answer
Yes, by way of LumiraDx Connect. The instrument does not publish a direct host protocol; it sends results over Bluetooth to a Connect Hub, and LumiraDx's EHR Connect service hands them on using standards such as HL7. Catenix is set up to receive from that service, and the exact message route is agreed during setup.
The LumiraDx Platform is a portable instrument that runs a family of microfluidic test strips from a fingerstick or a nasal swab. Roche, which bought the LumiraDx point-of-care technology in 2024, lists nine assays: NT-proBNP, HbA1c, CRP, D-Dimer, INR and four SARS-CoV-2 strips, including combined SARS-CoV-2 with Flu A/B and with RSV.
One box covering a cardiac marker, diabetes, inflammation, clotting and respiratory infection is attractive for a GP practice or community clinic. It is meant for trained healthcare professionals, and test availability varies by country.

How a LumiraDx result travels
The instrument has no network port of its own. A LumiraDx Connect Hub plugged in nearby picks up results by Bluetooth and sends them on over Wi-Fi or Ethernet to Connect Manager. The Connect App on a phone can stand in when an instrument is out of range of a hub. EHR Connect then passes results to other systems, in the cloud or locally, with HL7 and GDT among the formats LumiraDx names.
Catenix sits after that step. It stores each incoming message with its result and maps every assay, from INR to the SARS-CoV-2 strips, to the right EHR code during setup.
Patient ID at the instrument
The LumiraDx barcode scanner clips onto the instrument and plugs into one of its two USB ports. It reads patient IDs before a test and, on connected instruments, user IDs at log-in. EHR Connect can also confirm the patient at the time of testing. Any result that reaches Catenix without a matching patient is held for review.
Quality control in connected mode
On a connected instrument the QC policy can be set centrally. Control results that reach Catenix are filed as QC, graded with Westgard rules and plotted on Levey-Jennings charts, and a failed control holds patient results for that assay.

Questions people ask
Can the LumiraDx instrument connect straight to our network?
No. It talks by Bluetooth to a Connect Hub, or to the Connect App on a phone, and the hub joins the network by Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Which format reaches Catenix from LumiraDx?
LumiraDx says EHR Connect supports standards such as HL7 and GDT. The exact route and format are agreed during setup.
Is the LumiraDx Platform still supported?
Roche acquired the LumiraDx point-of-care technology in 2024 and lists the instrument on its UK site. Test availability varies by country.
