Connecting an EKF Quo-Test to your LIS or EHR
Quick answer
Yes, with EKF's connectivity package. It adds a connector interface box, cables and a software upgrade, and gives the Quo-Test two-way POCT1-A2 communication with a data management system. Catenix can receive its HbA1c results and send them to your EHR or LIS; the network side of the interface box is confirmed during setup.
The Quo-Test is EKF Diagnostics' point-of-care HbA1c analyser. It uses boronate affinity fluorescence quenching on a 4 microlitre fingerprick or venous whole blood sample and gives a result in four minutes, reported as % DCCT, IFCC mmol/mol or estimated average glucose.
With a four-minute result the HbA1c is available while the patient is still in the room. It is CE marked and stores up to 7,000 results.
| What | How Catenix handles it |
|---|---|
| Test | HbA1c, 4 to 15% DCCT |
| Sample | 4 microlitres capillary or venous whole blood |
| Result time | 4 minutes |
| Host protocol | POCT1-A2, bidirectional (connectivity package) |
| Without the package | USB text-file download, serial printer |
| Stored results | Up to 7,000 |
What the connectivity package changes
Out of the box the Quo-Test saves results and lets staff download them over USB as text files, which is fine for audit but not for the patient record. EKF's connectivity package is the step that makes it a networked device: a proprietary interface box, cables and a software upgrade that switch on POCT1-A2. EKF also sells its own EKF Link middleware; Catenix is an alternative host for sites that want HbA1c results to go straight into the EHR alongside other point-of-care tests.
Patients picked from a list, not typed
With the package fitted, patient ID and demographics such as family name and date of birth can be chosen from a pre-approved list, scanned with a barcode reader or typed on an add-on keyboard. That cuts transcription errors, and Catenix uses the patient ID to match each HbA1c to its EHR order. Results without a matching order wait for review. Every message is kept with its result.
User ID and QC lockout
The package brings user ID lockout, so only trained staff can run a test, and several user-defined QC lockout options that make POCT coordinators' QC schedules stick. Controls that reach Catenix are filed as QC, graded with Westgard rules against your targets and plotted on Levey-Jennings charts, and a failed control holds patient HbA1c results until it is reviewed. Operator IDs travel with each result.
