Connecting an Aidian QuikRead go to your LIS or EHR
Quick answer
Yes. The QuikRead go speaks POCT1-A2, which is bidirectional, and LIS01-A2 (ASTM), which is one-way. It connects by LAN cable, a USB Wi-Fi adapter or a serial cable, and Catenix receives its patient results and control runs and sends them to your EHR or LIS.
The QuikRead go is Aidian's portable point-of-care analyser, small enough to carry between rooms, with more than 60,000 QuikRead and QuikRead go instruments placed. CRP takes 2 minutes from a 20 microlitre capillary sample, HbA1c under 6 minutes from 1 microlitre, Strep A 4 minutes from a throat swab and iFOBT 3 minutes.
It needs no calibration, runs on mains or an optional battery and is offered in 23 languages. Aidian does not market it in the US.
| What | How Catenix handles it |
|---|---|
| Tests | CRP, CRP+Hb, wrCRP, easy CRP, HbA1c, Strep A, iFOBT |
| Protocols | POCT1-A2 (bidirectional), LIS01-A2 (one-way) |
| Network | TCP/IP over RJ45 LAN, or WLAN via USB adapter |
| Serial | RJ45 or RJ45-to-RS-232 cable, LIS01-A2 only |
| Stored on board | 100 patient and 100 control measurements |
| Offline buffer | 100 measurements held when the LIS is unreachable |
Choosing POCT1-A2 or LIS01-A2
LIS01-A2 is the simpler route: results go out one way, automatically or when staff press send, and it is the only option over the serial cable. POCT1-A2 runs over the network and adds two-way traffic. Aidian lists several features that only work with a POCT1-A2 connection: remote software updates, remote lock and unlock, remote user management, QC data control, patient identification and setting the clock. Which of these your unit has is confirmed during setup.
For most clinics we recommend the network and POCT1-A2, so results and control runs arrive in Catenix as soon as they are read.
What arrives with each result
The QuikRead go sends patient results, control runs, comments and notifications. Patient ID and user ID are recorded on the analyser, and a barcode reader can be attached, so Catenix can match each CRP or HbA1c to the right EHR order and keep the user's ID alongside it. Results without a matching order wait for review.
If the network drops
In LIS-offline mode the analyser holds up to 100 measurements until the link returns, and the Catenix gateway does the same on its side, keeping results on site through an internet outage and forwarding them later. Control runs are filed as QC rather than patient results, and a failed control holds patient results for that test until it is reviewed.
