Already have systems in place?

Running WinPath and ICE is not a reason to rule Catenix out. Catenix is modular, and for a trust or network the usual first step is the connectivity and quality control layer: connect the analysers and sites that sit outside the current LIMS integration, for example community clinics, occupational health or a satellite unit, capture QC with Levey-Jennings and Westgard evaluation, and deliver results over HL7 v2 into the LIMS or EPR you already run. Nothing is replaced. Quality management, inventory, reporting or billing can be switched on later if they earn their place. What you already have decides which modules you use, not whether Catenix fits.

Does Clinisys WinPath support point-of-care testing?

According to Clinisys, yes. The WinPath Enterprise brochure describes the LIMS as point-of-care testing compatible, integrating with and managing all hospital PoCT devices through a single centralised platform regardless of manufacturer. Does Clinisys use its own POCT middleware or a partner's?

POCT middleware, or a POCT platform, sits between near-patient analysers and the record, handling device connectivity, operator lockout, QC rules and the audit trail for testing done outside the laboratory. Some LIMS vendors add POCT features or partner with middleware. Some POCT platforms, including Catenix, deliver results into the LIMS or EPR over HL7 v2 or FHIR rather than replacing it.

Can Catenix send results into a Clinisys LIMS?

Catenix is designed and ready to deliver results over HL7 v2 and FHIR into any LIMS or EPR that accepts those standards, and Clinisys states that WinPath uses standard HL7 messaging for all external systems. Interface work is still scoped per site, with message specifications agreed on both sides and the LIMS supplier engaged, so treat it as a standard integration project rather than a plug-in. When would a trust choose Catenix instead of relying on the LIMS for POCT?

When the POCT service needs a quality layer the LIMS route does not give it: real-time QC with Westgard rules and lockouts, operator competency tied to each result, ISO 15189:2022-aligned quality management with CAPA and audits, EQA tracking, inventory by lot and expiry, or coverage of sites that sit outside the LIMS integration such as community diagnostic centres. Catenix adds these as a modular subscription while results continue to flow into the LIMS.
